Why we should memorize Scripture

A. It helps us

1. It renews our mind (Romans 12:2)
2. Purifies our heart (Psalm 119:9; Hebrews 4:12)
3. It helps us resisting temptation (Psalm 119:11; Matthew 4:1-11)
4. It helps us to know God (Psalm 119:10)
5. It provides guidance (Ephesians 5:17)
6. It aids us in worshipping God (John 4:24; cf. John 17:17
7. We are commanded to meditate on God’s Word (Joshua 1:8)
8. It helps our prayer life (John 15:7)
9. It helps our study of the Bible (2 Timothy 2:15)
10. It can protect us against wrong doctrine (Ephesians 4:14)

B. It helps others

1. It helps us to evangelize unbelievers (ex. Acts 2:14-36)
2. It helps us to teaching believers (Psalm 119:24)

Who Shall Know thy thought, except thou give Wisdom, and send thy Holy Spirit from above. — Wisdom 9:17

“The Book of Wisdom deals largely with rewards and punishments after death, and the doctrine of the immortality of the soul. The lot of the just is contrasted with that of the wicked in the next life; the Lord shall reward the former, but overwhelm the latter, so that ultimately men are treated according to their deserts.”

Chapter 1 — We Are to Seek God Sincerely

1 Love Justice, you that are the judges of the earth. Think of the Lord in goodness,
and seek Him in Simplicity of heart.
2 For He is found by them that tempt Him not: and He showeth Himself to them
that have faith in Him.
3 For Perverse thoughts separate from God: and his power, when it is tried,
reproveth the unwise,
4 for Wisdom will not enter into a malicious soul, nor dwell in a body subject to sins.
5 For the Holy Spirit of discipline will flee from the deceitful, and will withdraw himself
from the thoughts that are without understanding, and he shall not abide
when iniquity cometh in.
