Requiem Mass in D Minor<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s final Masterpiece was commissioned in mid 1791 by the Austrian count Franz Von Walsegg, as a Tribute to the passing of his young wife Anna. Mozart began his final composition in Prague, suffering from an undetermined illness, which would eventually take his life and rob him of the chance to see the completion of his Magnum Opus. After Mozart’s death, his understudy ‘Franz Xaver S\u00fcssmayr’, at the behest of Mozart’s wife, completed the missing parts of the Requiem.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Requiem Mass was first performed on January 2, 1793, in a private concert for the benefit of Mozart’s grieving wife, Constanze Mozart.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Following are the lyrics, translated from their Original Latin<\/strong><\/p>\n

Grant them eternal rest, Lord,
\nand let perpetual light shine on them.
\nYou are praised, God, in Zion,
\nand homage will be paid to You in Jerusalem.
\nHear my prayer,
\nto You all flesh will come.
\nGrant them eternal rest, Lord,

Lord, have mercy on us.
\nChrist, have mercy on us.
\nLord, have mercy on us.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Day of wrath, day of anger
\nwill dissolve the world in ashes,
\nas foretold by David and the Sibyl.
\nGreat trembling there will be
\nwhen the Judge descends from heaven
\nto examine all things closely.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The trumpet will send its wondrous sound
\nthroughout earth’s sepulchres
\nand gather all before the throne.
\nDeath and nature will be astounded,
\nwhen all creation rises again,
\nto answer the judgment.
\nA book will be brought forth,
\nin which all will be written,
\nby which the world will be judged.
\nWhen the judge takes his place,
\nwhat is hidden will be revealed,
\nnothing will remain unavenged.
\nWhat shall a wretch like me say?
\nWho shall intercede for me,
\nwhen the just ones need mercy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

King of tremendous majesty,
\nwho freely saves those worthy ones,
\nsave me, source of mercy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Remember, kind Jesus,
\nmy salvation caused your suffering;
\ndo not forsake me on that day.
\n
\nFaint and weary you have sought me,
\nredeemed me, suffering on the cross;
\nmay such great effort not be in vain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Righteous judge of vengeance,
\ngrant me the gift of absolution
\nbefore the day of retribution.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I moan as one who is guilty:
\nowning my shame with a red face;
\nsuppliant before you, Lord.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You, who absolved Mary,
\nand listened to the thief,
\ngive me hope also.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My prayers are unworthy,
\nbut, good Lord, have mercy,
\nand rescue me from eternal fire.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Provide me a place among the sheep,
\nand separate me from the goats,
\nguiding me to Your right hand.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When the accused are confounded,
\nand doomed to flames of woe,
\ncall me among the blessed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I kneel with submissive heart,
\nmy contrition is like ashes,
\nhelp me in my final condition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That day of tears and mourning,
\nwhen from the ashes shall arise,
\nall humanity to be judged.
\nSpare us by your mercy, Lord,
\ngentle Lord Jesus,
\ngrant them eternal rest. Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lord Jesus Christ, King of glory,
\nliberate the souls of the faithful,
\ndeparted from the pains of hell
\nand from the bottomless pit.
\nDeliver them from the lion’s mouth,
\nlest hell swallow them up,
\nlest they fall into darkness.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let the standard-bearer, holy Michael,
\nbring them into holy light.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Which was promised to Abraham
\nand his descendants.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sacrifices and prayers of praise, Lord,
\nwe offer to You.
\nReceive them in behalf of those souls
\nwe commemorate today.
